(I like to kid myself that this is because they're from US shows which haven't shown up on terrestrial TV over here yet, but the sad truth is that I too am on the wrong side of 40 now. And I was never a hip kid anyway...)

Judging by what I've seen of Smallville, he showed up a few times in the first season to complicate Lex's life (usually by interfering with Lex's management of the Smallville LexCorp plant), then in the second season he seemed to appear a bit more regularly. Let's just say that he's the man who made Lex Luthor the man he is today...The older Luthor is Lionel Luthor, Lex’s father. Judging by what I’ve seen of Smallville, he showed up a few times in the first season to complicate Lex’s life (usually by interfering with Lex’s management of the Smallville LexCorp plant), then in the second season he seemed to appear a bit more regularly.
