Cloud Appreciation Society

March 7th, 2005

The Cloud Appreciation Society has a very nice, highly informative web site. And a manifesto:

At The Cloud Appreciation Society we believe that clouds are unjustly maligned and that life would be immeasurably poorer without them
[...]
We fear that they are so everyday as to be in danger of being overlooked. And so we seek to remind people that the clouds are expressions of the atmosphere’s moods that can be read like those of a person’s countenance. We’re in danger of becoming meteorologically autistic – of becoming ignorant of the meanings of these expressions.

As a bonus, they have a whole section of images of the Morning Glory, which might for my money is most spectacular atmospheric phenomenon this side of the polar aurora.

Did you know that International Cloud Lovers Day is set for April 7, 2006, but it can be celebrated or observed on any day of the year. Whatever you do or see on that day, please email your comments to leinadmoolb@gmail.com

    Thanks

Attended the RGS lecture on 24th April; loved it. Always fascinated by clouds; most astonishing a single 'spinning top' in southern Pacific ocean (have a photo somewhere). Anyway now a new subject for my NIkon digital.

I have tried to join the society. After 40 mins I have given up: it was the worst experience since trying to buy a rail ticket on line. Why do you keep asking so many questions? All the same questions?

I'd just like to clarify that neither I nor this site are affiliated with or responsible for the Cloud Appreciation Society. I simply posted a favourable comment about their site.

Bob, I see that the CAS site has a page with contact details: perhaps you could use one of the email addresses there to contact them about the problems you had subscribing.

  7. Bill Says:

Are you aware of the Book of Clouds by John A. Day?
