Inception reversed

Prompted by this and this, Stu was inspired to come up with a gender reversed cast for Inception.
A couple of alternative suggestions for Stu's female lead, in place of Angelina Jolie:
- If he was casting his version in 2001, as per Karie's original list, I'd suggest Geena Davis in The Long Kiss Goodnight mode, or Sigourney Weaver.1
- In terms of present-day casting, how about Charlize Theron?
Part of the problem with recasting Leo's role is that there just haven't been that many decent female action stars on film lately.2 Then again, if you see Inception as a heist movie this isn't such an issue: what you're looking for then is more cool-leadership-under-pressure than action hero, and the likes of Naomi Watts and Cate Blanchett and Rachel Weisz3 come into the frame.
Next up: casting Inception as a TV miniseries.

Yes, I considered Theron but I was looking to like for like and after Aeon Flux, Theron is rather broken as an action hero. See also Jennifer Garner post-Electra.
Neither of those are actually *bad* in the way that Tomb Raider is horrible, but Lara Croft made money and Jolie is still being cast — plus she replaced Cruise on Salt.
The other issue is that even something as simple as casting pushes the film in different directions in relation to genre. About the only other actor you could put in Leo's role and keep the balance right now is probably Clive Owen.

Carla Gugino steps in for Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Arthur (or Gwen)
Mathieu Kassovitz replaces Marion Cotillard.
Sigourny Weaver as Saito, in place of Ken Watanabe
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Ariadne (or Adrian). **
Radha Mitchell replaces Tom Hardy as Eames (Emma).
Saffron Burrows instead of Cillian Murphy as Roberta Fischer.
Pam Grier in place of Tom Berenger as Browning.
Sarah Polley replacing Dileep Rao
* I think Geena Davies's ship had sailed by the then. Demi Moore's awol. You could slip in Nicole Kidman I suppose or indeed Jolie (this being the year of Tomb Raider) but again it's a matter of tone. 2001 was not a good year for action females in major roles. Julia Roberts at a push though she was nicely in the process of squandering her Erin Brockovich career uplift.
** This was more the kind of role Weaver was taking in 2001. This was the year of Heartbreakers for her. Alien: Resurrection was released four years before. Galaxy Quest in 1999.
