‪Hackgate: The Movie. Some truly inspired casting decisions there.1

  1. Marred somewhat by one really unfortunate choice right at the end.

I still think Rob Brydon should play Steve Coogan. And Catherine Tate, natch, as Brooks.

I like the Catherine Tate idea so much. I was thinking Bonnie Langford, or possibly Alex Kingston.

Given that they seem to have become something of a double-act, does casting Catherine Tate mean we have to find a role for David Tennant? James Murdoch, maybe? (1997-vintage) Tony Blair?

(No, I don't know why my mind is stuck in Doctor Who mode either. Though come to think of it, John Simm would make a pretty good Andy Coulson.)

My cast list as posted in FB a few days ago:

Paul McMullen – played by Paddy Considine
Rebekah Brooks – played by Catherine Tate
Steve Coogan – played by Rob Brydon
Hugh Grant – played by James Purefoy (not sure about this one)
Andy Coulson – played by John Simm
CallMeDave Cameron – played by Michael Sheen
Rupert Murdoch – played by Barry Humphries (or Geoffrey Rush?)

    Great minds etc.

The best thing about this affair is that with every day that passes the cast list gets longer. On Friday it was Rebekah Brooks and Les Hinton. Today it's the resignation of the Commissioner of the Met. Who knows how much further the Dramatis Personæ will expand in the days to come.

I'm sure by this time next week we'll have the perfect part for James Purefoy. (George Osborne? Oh please make it so!)
