"Food is icky, tables are sticky, waitress has a hickey, stay home if you're picky"

The Zagat Survey is apparently some sort of restaurant guide, available to subscribers only. What the do make available free of charge is Unfit for Print, an (anonymous) list of some of the more ... striking ... comments their reviewers made. I can't quite decide which is worse: "Grandma cooked like this, Grandpa died young" or "Mashed potatoes and attitudes don't mix". Not that they're all adverse comments, mind you. I'd quite like to eat at an establishment "So romantic that wives feel like mistresses and vice versa".

"Makes prunes desirable"
"A petri dish gone horribly, horribly wrong"
"Where's the health department?"

You know, now I really *need* to know the names of these places just to be sure I never never eat there! Then again, I have eaten at a place that got closed down by the health dept. A week after I ate there. And see, I thought it was pretty good food - this is what worries me...

But do you really want to know? What if you've been eating there for months already?

Sometimes I think it's better to live in a certain amount of ignorance (denial?) about what we eat and how it's prepared. If we really knew what was done to our food when it's prepared and served by staff on minimum wage out of sight I suspect most of us would never eat out again. Or insist that the chef prepared the entire meal at our table...
