Redecorating
Regular readers will probably have noticed a couple of changes round here. Yes, I finally got tired of the blue and yellow! (If you're still seeing the old yellow-and-blue colour scheme, it probably means that your web browser is still using a cached copy of the style sheet. If you force your browser to refresh the page then it should pick up the new style sheet.)
Apart from the new colour scheme and a few typographical changes, the main additions are to the sidebar. It's still in dire need of a revamp, but for now I've concentrated on adding sites which are long overdue for a mention: most importantly, I've added a number of excellent weblogs which I've been reading via the miracle of RSS for a while now. There's a new section for photoblogs, and further down the sidebar I've added a list of Apple/Mac-related sites which I've started looking at over the last year or so. The other change is that I've reduced the lists of films and books to manageable proportions.
I've tested the design in as many browsers as I could lay my hands on, but there's bound to be the odd quirk in one browser or another, so if anyone sees anything strange I'd appreciate it if they could either mention it in a comment to this post or else just email me.
And yes, this means that I'm back off the sick. Normal weblogging will resume tomorrow.

Very nice! Slight problem on IE5 (which I have to use at work) though: The sidebar is right-aligned but it shows up *after* the main content. Probably just a CSS thing you can't do much about. This browser sucks. I'm sure it will look gorgeous on Safari when I get home. :)

What screen resolution are you using at work, and does it make any difference if you run IE maximised? I did fiddle slightly with the width of the sidebar and the gap between sidebar and content, so it might be that the change has exacerbated the problem IE has always had when it runs out out screen width, which causes it to push the sidebar down after the content.
I used to see this behaviour with the previous design when I used IE at work: running on an 800x600 display it was fine when operating maximised, but if I used a smaller window then the sidebar headed south. As you say, it's one of IE's little CSS-related quirks. IIRC I did experiment with setting the widths of the two columns using percentages rather than pixels but that caused some other weirdness.
When I get back to work today I'll see if it's still behaving in the same way. If the new design is even more susceptible to the problem then I might tinker with the width of the sidebar.

Ahh, it'd be the width issue then. I'm forced to do all my surfing in an 800x600 Terminal Services window (both to evade my boss and the proxy filter). Don't worry about it then. At least I can still read your content. I visited diveintomark today and I lose the left- and rightmost 50 pixels at the edges of his content. Site's unreadable to me. At least you don't do that!

I feel your pain. My workplace recently introduced content filtering and wiped out half my lunchtime browsing sessions at a stroke. Your site is now blocked, along with about a third of the weblogs I try to visit daily. I can still read your RSS feed via Bloglines, but it's not the same.
