2020 Vision

David Brin has contributed a short story called 2020 Vision to the Online Journalism Review. The brief story - it's just under 2,000 words long - takes Brin's thoughts on the future of journalism and places them in the context of the pervasive surveillance technologies he explored in his non-fiction book The Transparent Society.

It's a vignette rather than a plot-driven story, but that's OK. Brin presumably wanted to paint an accessible picture of life in an information-saturated future, and his story certainly achieves that end.

(Having said all that, Bruce Sterling does this sort of thing so much better. Check out his collection A Good Old-Fashioned Future.)
