Fantastic Four costumes
Most people who care about this will probably have seen these already, but for what it's worth here are the first pictures of the costumes from the Fantastic Four film.
The costumes look fine, as does the makeup work on Michel Chiklis, insofar as you can tell from a still image: the real question is how far we'll be able to see his acting under all that makeup. Trouble is, I look at Ioan Gruffudd and Jessica Alba and I just don't see Reed Richards and Sue Storm. But then, Hugh Jackman doesn't much resemble the comic book version of Wolverine (not least because he's about a foot too tall for the part) and that worked out just fine.
The costume I really want to see, obviously, is Doc Doom. That'll be the real test.

I've flicked back and forth a bunch of times, and if I wait over three seconds, I can't recall which is supposed to be Reed, and which Johnny.
Given that I've followed these figures since about 1962, I don't care for that. Johnny has extremely blonde hair.
Reed and Johnny aren't supposed to look remotely like twins. Johnny and Sue are.
Sue should be pure blonde, of course, but I might be able to live with less. Maybe. I'll grumble, though.
I might be able to live with the Thing's look here, but at first glance, it's marginal at best. He's close to fighting the Hulk to a win, though not quite. They finally did the Hulk right. This should be reconcilable, or it fails for me. Thing should be far rockier, and about three times larger. He needs to be able to put up a credible fight with the Hulk. He needs to be able to upend buildings. The pictured figure can't do that.
I don't see that it can be done without throwing out their promises to Chiklis, and making him CGI, and I know they promised Chiklis otherwise, but I'm a lot more interested in the integrity of the character than making Chiklis feel good. Frankly, if Chiklis didn't research the character, he shouldn't have taken the part.
I do recognize that these are first views, and balloons. Those are my initial reactions.

I suppose there's a slight chance that they might pull some LOTR-style scaling tricks with Chiklis to make him loom over his teammates on-screen. I doubt it - I think his head as shown is proportionately larger than it ought to be if that were the plan - but until we see a group shot it's hard to be sure. I agree that Reed doesn't look old enough compared to Johnny, but I'm hoping that that's just an artefact of an overly-airbrushed photo.
(Yes, I certainly am straining every sinew to remain optimistic. I'm not a huge FF fan, but I still think it'd be a terrible shame to see the FF finally land on the big screen - notwithstanding the infamous Corman effort - only to fall flat on their faces because of stupid casting and costuming decisions. Let's not get into all the things that could go wrong with the script or the performances, OK?)
